Test 2 - German - Lipids and FA's Flashcards
Chylomicron t-port. Name the 7 steps.
Bile salts form mixed micelles from fats.
Intestinal ligases breakdown triacylglycerols.
FA are converted into triacylglycerolds
TAGs are added with cholesterol and apolipoproteins into chylomicrons.
Chylomicrons move thru the lymph to tissues.
Lipoprotein lipase converts TAGs to FAs and glycerol.
FAs oxidized as fuel or reesterified for storage.
FAs are transported in 2 ways. Name them
Serum albumin - free FAs
Lipoproteins
Look at slide 7 of lipid lecture for cholesterol t-port.
Do it.
What transports fatty acrylic-CoA into the mitochondria for oxidation?
Acyl-Carnitine Shuttle
What is the RLS of fatty acid beta oxidation?
Acrylic-CoA dehydrogenase. FADH2 is formed from this.
*Per oxidation step, 1 Acetyl-CoA, 1 NADH and 1 FADH2 are formed
When are ketone bodies produced?
When oxalaoacetate is limited.
What are the products of ketone formation?
Acetoacetate, d-beta-hydroxybutyrate, acetone
What is the primary enzyme of ketone body formation?
HMG-CoA synthase
What is NADPH?
Anabolic electron donor produced from the PPS and the citrate shuttle
What does PKA do to ACC?
Inactivates it by phosphorylating it.
