Test 2 Chapter 12 Flashcards
Adrenergic
Epinephrine (adrenaline), norepinephrine (noradrenaline), or a similar substance acts as a neurotransmitter.
Angioplasty
Procedure used to open blocked coronary arteries caused by coronary artery disease
Aschoff Bodies
Localized lesions in the heart muscle that can interfere with conduction post myocarditis (inflammation)
Autoregulation
Ability of the heart to adapt its blood supply by dilating or constricting
Baroreceptors
Detect change in pressure, blood pressure in the heart
Aldosterone
Increases blood volume by increasing resorption of Na ions and water
ADH
Increases water resorption through the kidneys increasing blood volume. AKA Vasopressin which causes vasoconstriction
Cardiac Output
Volume of blood ejected by the ventricle in 1 minute. CO= HR x Stroke Volume
Bradycardia
Slow HR
Cardiomegaly
Enlarged heart (chambers enlarge and wall of ventricle thickens)
Ectopic
An early, missed, or extra heartbeat. It happens because something goes wrong with your heart’s electrical system
Electrodes
Electrodes (small, plastic patches that stick to the skin) are placed at certain spots on the chest, arms, and legs.
Endarterectomy
Procedure that removes fatty deposits blocking one of the two carotid arteries
Hemoptysis
Blood stained sputum
Microcirculation
Reduced when patient is in shock with less cardiac output
