What is a vinculum and what does it do?
A band of connective tissue, similar to a ligament, that connects a flexor tendon to a phalanx bone. They contain tiny vessels which supply blood to the tendon.
What happens when a tendon remains immobile for too long?
Immobility reduces water content and glycosaminoglycan concentration and strength
What is de Quervain’s stenosing tenovaginitis?
Inflammation of extensor pollicis brevis and abductor pollicis longus, resulting in pain at the outside of the wrist. Also known as “texting thumb” etc. Radial aspect of the wrist is swollen, tender, hot and red, and a positive Finklestein’s test is observed.
