Q

Discuss how real time data improves a coaches decision making ( just the agree section ) ?

A
  • GPS allows the coach to track how far a performer has travelled in a game.
  • It creates an activity profile such as a heat map, which allows the coach to see where the performer has spent most time on the pitch.
  • This allows the coach to check for social loafing as they are able to compare the data.
  • They also allow the coach to check for injuries/fatigue. E.g. if a player has not covered a lot of distance, it could indicate an injury/fatigue.
  • Notational analysis allows the coach to gain in game statistics quickly (e.g. pass completion rate) which allows in game decision’s to be made such as formation changes or substitutions.
  • Heart rate monitors allow the coach to check for anxiety levels in periods of low intensities. E.g. a high heart rate during a break in play could suggest the performer has somatic anxiety

Q

Discuss how real time data improves a coaches decision making ( just the disagree section ) ?

A
  • GPS is expensive, which means it is not accessible for everybody.
  • as the performer will be aware they are being observed, this may cause evaluation apprehension which will cause performance to decrease
  • GPS can restrict movement which can increase anxiety levels, which increases muscular tension, decreasing muscular control which
    will increase performance levels.
  • Notational analysis is subjective and the coach may miss parts of performance meaning that the data is not 100% accurate (Between 30-45% accurate)
  • This means the data may cause the coach to make wrong decisions such as substituting the wrong player, which will decrease self efficacy.
  • The use of a HR monitor is not a valid measure of anxiety as the performer may have high heart rate during low intensity periods in play
due to low levels of fitness.
