What are the three types of goals ?
A
- outcome goals
- performance goals
- process goals

What are outcome goals ?
A
- based upon the end result
- achieving this goal cause the performers self-efficacy to increase
- it can lead to approach behaviour

What are some problems with outcome goals ?
A
Problems:
- The goal is outside the performer’s full control. For example, the performer cannot control the opponent/referee
- Repeated failure can lead to demotivation
- Repeated failure can also lead to avoidance behaviour

What are performance goals ?
A
- The performer is judged against themselves e.g. achieving a personal best in a competition, regardless of the end result
- This helps to increase/maintain self-efficacy
- Realistic performance goals can distract the performer from the cause of anxiety

What are process goals ?
A
- Focused on their techniques or tactics
- Effective process goals can affect outcome and performance goals
- E.g. improve tumble turn in swimming
