Define Team Evolution: Forming

A

Team leader works on building trust and confidence. Team members focus on getting to know each other and clarifying roles, ground rules, behavior etc.

Fear may be about personal acceptance possible inadequacy for the task ahead and the consequences if the team fails its mission which can manifest in negative ways.

Example sentence: During the forming stage, team members are introduced to each other and establish their roles within the team.

Define Team Evolution: Storming

A

Team leader guides the team on their tasks and team member adapt to working with each other. Tend to be individualistic approach and can be competitive.

Uncertainty persists with resistance and conflict. The leader needs to clarify, power and authority give team members more responsibilities and ensure the ground rules are well established.

Example sentence: The storming stage may involve conflicts as team members adjust to working together.

Define Team Evolution: Norming

A

Team leader works on building cooperation and confidence among the members and getting comfortable helping each other. Help to build confidence to resolve conflict without feelings of negativity or resentment.

Members shift from dwelling on their personal agendas to addressing the objectives of the team the leader with, aid from a facilitator, focuses on process, promoting participation and team decision-making, encouraging peer support, and providing feedback.

Example sentence: In the norming stage, team members start to collaborate more effectively and support each other.

A

Team leader builds openness to change and team members focus as a functioning unit. People are comfortable working together.

Mature and integrated teams now understand their own strengths and weaknesses, as well as those of other members.
