Teaching Strategies Flashcards
Evidence-Based Science Instruction
using educational research to design lessons
Concept / Vocabulary Map
a scaffold with a new concept or vocabulary word in the middle and visuals or descriptive text around it
Brain-Based Learning
activity-based learning that connects both sides of the brain
Ex: active learning activities such as debating
Individual / Organism
one individual organism of a given species
Physical Properties
elements that can be seen about a material without changing it
Ex: density, boiling point
Matter
anything that has mass and takes up space
Ex: mud
Energy
the power to make heat (transfer thermal energy) or do work (use a force to move something over a distance).
Ex: gasoline has stored potential chemical energy
Force
interaction, a push or pull between two objects that fights other forces or makes them move faster.
Ex: Gravitational, electromagnetic, strong nuclear, and weak nuclear forces are the only universal forces.
Discrepant Events
events with unexpected outcomes
A teacher drops two different-weighted objects to illustrate gravity. The simultaneous fall surprises students.
