Teacher roles.
This is to behave in different ways at different stages of a lesson to manage the classroom and to successfullu guide learners through the lesson. Also, the rol can vary depending on the teaching approach, learning style and needs.
Planner.
Prepares and reflects on the lesson; anticipates problems and select, designs and adapts materials.
Manager.
Organises the learning space, makes sure everything is ready to use and sets up rules and routines.
Monitor/Observer
Goes around the class checking learning and providing support.
Facilitator.
Provides opportunities for learning, helps learners to find resources and develop learner autonomy.
Diagnostician.
Works out the causes of learners’ difficulties.
Langugage resource.
Can be used by the students for help and advice about language.
Assesor.
Evaluates the language level and attitudes of the learners by using informal or formal assessment.
Rapport builder.
Tries to create a good relationship between and with the learners.
The role according to the age.
With young learners we might take the role of a parent or a friend when a student is unwell or unhappy. With teenagers or adults the key roles are motivating and mantaining discipline; language resource and facilitator.
