Motivation Flashcards
Motivation.
It’s the thoughts and feelings which make us want to and continue to want to do something and which turn our wishes into actions.
Target language culture.
It’s the culture of the language we are learning. This is learning a language because of interest in culture with a capital C, i.e. high culture. But we can be interested in a small c, i.e. wanting to learn japanise in order to read manga.
Learner autonomy/independence.
It’s to feel responsible for and in control of our own learning.
The teacher
He needs to be commited and motivated. Behaving natural and being as sensitive and accepting as he can.
The classroom atmosphere.
It needs to be pleasant, calm, secure and ordered. A little of humor and laughter; smile.
The task.
It should be clear, and we need to point out the purpose and usefulness of every task.
Rapport.
Treat each learner as an individual.
Self-confidence.
We can give positive feedback and praise, traying that our students experiment success and accepting mistakes as a natural part of learning.
Interest.
We should select interesting task and topics taking in consideration the learner interest; offering a variety in materials and activities. Tasks should be a little bit challenging.
Autonomy
It is encouraged through encouraging creative and imaginative ideas; questions and sharing the responsability of organising the learning process.
Personal relevance.
In order to make tasks relevant, we need to personalise them.
Goal/target.
We can set up several specific goals. Also, it’s recommendable to encourage students to set up their own goals.
Culture.
To make learners familiar with the culture through inviting native speakers or using different devices is the best way to learn.
