TB 150 - Drager X-am 5000 Combustible Gas Indicator Flashcards
The Dräger X-am 5000 will provide beneficial information at the following incidents:
• Natural gas or methane leak
• Explosion and/or any potentially explosive atmosphere
• Confined space
• Trench Rescue
• Metro-Rail
• Oxygen enriched or depleted atmosphere
• Hazardous Materials
• Overhaul
Dräger X-am 5000 combustible gas meter (CGI) is equipped to detect what 5 gases?
- Carbon Monoxide (CO)
- Oxygen (O2)
- Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S)
- Hydrogen Cyanide (HCN)
- Methane / all explosive hydrocarbons (pentane, butane, propane, ect.)
(Pay attention to gas abbreviations)
Fresh air calibrations are performed in the field by emergency responders.
Gas-specific calibrations are performed by HazMat Squad personnel every ____ months and anytime the meter’s start-up self test indicates a sensor problem.
6 months
5 Gas Meter Status symbols:
At start-up, the X-am 5000 goes through a testing sequence that evaluates the health of each sensor.
The meter must not be used if the “____” symbol is displayed in the UPPER RIGHT corner of the screen.
“X” (Fault symbol)
The manufacturer DOES NOT guarantee this device to be intrinsically safe in oxygen-enriched atmospheres.
Immediately leave any area with oxygen reading GREATER THAN _____%. There is a danger of explosion.
23.5%
Do not store near or use ______ spray (commonly found in the fire station) on the 5 gas meter. It will be damaged.
Silicone spray
5 gas meters are not intended for use in chemical atmospheres with wide FLAMMABILITY ranges such as _______ or ________.
-Hydrogen or Acetylene.
(Because these chemicals have such wide ranges you could potentially already be in an explosive environment the moment your meter detects the presence of a flammable atmosphere. IMMEDIATELY exit and request HAZMAT)
The X-am 5000 is set to alarm at:
-_____% of the LEL for the A1 alarm
-_____% of the LEL for the A2 alarm.
10% A1
20% A2
The following must be done before the meter is used:
• Check for warning symbol (!) – The device CAN BE operated normally with the warning symbol on the display. (Contact Hazmat after)
• Check for fault message symbol - SHALL NOT be used at an incident if present
• Perform a fresh air calibration.
• Clear the peak values.
• Check that the gas sensor area is not occluded
If established, report all meter readings to the incident commander through the ________ Supervisor.
Hazardous Materials Group
Owners Manual snapshot:
To view peak values:
While in measuring mode, press the “_____” key for approximately 2 seconds.
-“Ok”
(Peak values are the highest readings the meter has been exposed to since the last time the values were cleared.)
Peak values must be cleared prior to using at an incident. To clear peak values:
• While in the measuring mode, depress the + button 3 times.
• Select the icon from the quick menu by pressing the + key then the OK key.
• The peak values will be displayed and can be cleared by depressing and holding the OK key for approximately 5 seconds.
Fresh Air Calibration
Sensors which have not warmed up or which are faulty will prevent the fresh air calibration and the unit will display the message “_____” with the symbol (!) signifying a warning message.
“159”
