What is a positive symptom of sz?
An added way of thinking or behaviour that was not there before the disorder onset
What is a negative symptom of sz?
When something is missing from a person’s normal behavours.
What are the three groups of positive symptoms?
hallucinations, delusions, disordered thinking
What are the three types of delusions?
delusions of grandeur, paranoia, thought insertion/broadcast
Define and give examples of delusions of grandeur
persistent false belief by an individual that they are in a place of power over others or have special powers. examples include believing they control the weather, believing they are royalty or believing they can communicate directly with god
define and give examples of paranoia
persistent false belief by an individual that they are being persecuted and someone wants to harm them, is spying on them or plotting against them. examples include believing the fbi is spying on them
define and give examples of thought insertion/thought broadcasting
persistent false belief by an individual that their thoughts are being given to them by someone else and others can see or hear their thoughts as if transmitted via signal. examples include thinking people can hear their thoughts, their thoughts are being watched on a tv
define disordered thinking
difficulty to put thoughts in logical order due to inability to organise incoming sensory information which can lead to poor working memory and word salad
describe and give examples of word salad
jumbled or incoherent speech or made up words with no meaning resulting from disordered thinking. examples include using words like glump, belly bad luck, dogs sleep chicken pencil trees
what are the three negative symptoms of sz?
emotional disturbance, psychomotor disturbance, Lack of volition
