إِذَا

السَّمَاءُ
the sky
انْشَقَّتْ
(is) split asunder; split apart
وَأَذِنَتْ
and has listened
لِرَبِّهَا
to its[feminine] Lord
وَحُقَّتْ
and was obligated
وَإِذَا
and when
الْأَرْضُ
the earth
مُدَّتْ
is spread
وَأَلْقَتْ
and has cast out; and hurls out
مَا
what
فِيهَا
in it
وَتَخَلَّتْ
and becomes empty
لِرَبِّهَا
to its[feminine] Lord
يَا
“O…“[as if calling for one’s attention]
أَيُّهَا
“O…“[as if calling for one’s attention]
الْإِنْسَانُ
mankind
إِنَّكَ
indeed, you
كَادِحٌ
(are) laboring
إِلَىٰ
to
رَبِّكَ
your Lord
كَدْحًا
(with) exertion
فَمُلَاقِيهِ
and then (will) meet(s) him
فَأَمَّا
then as for
مَنْ
(him) who
أُوتِيَ
is given
كِتَابَهُ
his book; his record
بِيَمِينِهِ
in his right (hand)
فَسَوْفَ
then soon
يُحَاسَبُ
his account will be taken
حِسَابًا
an account
يَسِيرًا
easy; an ease
وَيَنْقَلِبُ
and he will return
أَهْلِهِ
his people; his family
مَسْرُورًا
happily; happy
وَأَمَّا
but as for; and as for
وَرَاءَ
behind
ظَهْرِهِ
his back
يَدْعُو
he will call
ثُبُورًا
a destruction; devastation
وَيَصْلَىٰ
and he will burn
سَعِيرًا
(in) a blaze
إِنَّهُ
indeed, he
كَانَ
had been; was ever-so
فِي
among; in
ظَنَّ
(had) thought
أَنْ
that
لَنْ
never
يَحُورَ
he would return; he returns
بَلَىٰ
in fact; Yes!; Absolutely!
إِنَّ
indeed
رَبَّهُ
his Lord
بَصِيرًا
all-seer; seeing
فَلَا
but no!; then nay!
أُقْسِمُ
I swear
بِالشَّفَقِ
by the twilight glow
وَاللَّيْلِ
and the night
وَمَا
and what
وَسَقَ
it envelops
وَالْقَمَرِ
and the moon
اتَّسَقَ
it becomes full
لَتَرْكَبُنَّ
you[plural] will surely embark
طَبَقًا
a stage; a layer
عَنْ
from
طَبَقٍ
a stage; a layer
فَمَا
so what
لَهُمْ
to them; for them
لَا
not
يُؤْمِنُونَ
they believe
قُرِئَ
is recited
عَلَيْهِمُ
to them; upon them
الْقُرْآنُ
the Quran;
يَسْجُدُونَ
they prostrate; them prostrating
الَّذِينَ
those who
بَلِ
nay!; rather
كَفَرُوا
disbelieved
يُكَذِّبُونَ
they deny; deny [plural]
وَاللَّهُ
and Allah
أَعْلَمُ
knows; I know
بِمَا
of what
يُوعُونَ
they keep; keep [plural]
فَبَشِّرْهُمْ
so give them tidings
بِعَذَابٍ
of a punishment
أَلِيمٍ
painful
إِلَّا
except
آمَنُوا
believe [plural]
وَعَمِلُوا
and do [plural]
الصَّالِحَاتِ
righteous deeds
أَجْرٌ
(is) a reward
غَيْرُ
without
مَمْنُونٍ
ending
