وَالْفَجْرِ

هَلْ

ذَٰلِكَ

قَسَمٌ
an oath
لِذِي
to/for the one possessing
حِجْرٍ
understanding
أَلَمْ
did not; has not
تَرَ
you see
كَيْفَ
how
فَعَلَ
dealt; (has) done
رَبُّكَ
your Lord
بِعَادٍ
with ‘Aad [ancient society]
إِرَمَ
Iram [ancient society]
ذَاتِ
possessors (of) [feminine]
الْعِمَادِ
the lofty pillars
الَّتِي
which[feminine]; the one who [feminine]
لَمْ
not
يُخْلَقْ
had been created
مِثْلُهَا
like it [feminine]
الْبِلَادِ
the cities
وَثَمُودَ
and Thamud [ancient society]
الَّذِينَ
those who
جَابُوا
they carved out
الصَّخْرَ
the rocks
بِالْوَادِ
in the valley
وَفِرْعَوْنَ
and Fir’awna; and Pharaoh
ذِي
possessor of; owner of
الْأَوْتَادِ
stakes
طَغَوْا
they transgressed
فَأَكْثَرُوا
and they (made) much; and they increased
فِيهَا
therein; in it [feminine]
الْفَسَادَ
corruption
فَصَبَّ
so poured
عَلَيْهِمْ
on them
سَوْطَ
scourge; torment; affliction
عَذَابٍ
(of) punishment
إِنَّ
indeed
لَبِالْمِرْصَادِ
(is) surely ever watchful; surely lying in wait
فَأَمَّا
and as for
الْإِنْسَانُ
mankind
مَا
what; does [supplemental particle in this context]
ابْتَلَاهُ
try him
رَبُّهُ
his Lord
فَأَكْرَمَهُ
and is generous to him
وَنَعَّمَهُ
and favors him
فَيَقُولُ
So, he says
رَبِّي
my Lord
أَكْرَمَنِ
has honored me
وَأَمَّا
but as for
فَقَدَرَ
and restricts; and has power/control
عَلَيْهِ
for him; upon him
رِزْقَهُ
his provision
أَهَانَنِ
(has) humiliated me
كَلَّا
Nay!; Absolutely not!
بَلْ
rather; but
تُكْرِمُونَ
you[plural] honor
لَا
not
الْيَتِيمَ
the orphan
وَلَا
and not
تَحَاضُّونَ
you feel the urge [plural]
عَلَىٰ
to; on
طَعَامِ
feed
الْمِسْكِينِ
the poor
وَتَأْكُلُونَ
and you consume; and you eat
التُّرَاثَ
the inheritance
أَكْلًا
devouring
لَمًّا
altogether
وَتُحِبُّونَ
and you love [plural]
الْمَالَ
wealth
حُبًّا
(with) love
جَمًّا
immense
دُكَّتِ
is leveled
الْأَرْضُ
the earth
دَكًّا
A pounding; a crushing
وَجَاءَ
and comes
وَالْمَلَكُ
and the Angels
صَفًّا
a rank; (in) a row
وَجِيءَ
and is brought
يَوْمَئِذٍ
that day
بِجَهَنَّمَ
(with) + Hell
يَتَذَكَّرُ
will remember
الْإِنْسَانُ
mankind
وَأَنَّىٰ
but how
لَهُ
for him
الذِّكْرَىٰ
the remembrance
يَا
O [calling one’s attention]
لَيْتَنِي
O I wish!
قَدَّمْتُ
I had sent forth; I offered
لِحَيَاتِي
for my life
فَيَوْمَئِذٍ
so + that day
يُعَذِّبُ
(he) will punish
عَذَابَهُ
His punishment
أَحَدٌ
one; anyone
يُوثِقُ
will bind
وَثَاقَهُ
and (as) His binding; and His convenant
يَا أَيَّتُهَا
O you…! [calling one’s attention][feminine]
النَّفْسُ
the soul
الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ
who is satisfied; who’s hearts are reassured
ٕإرْجِعِي
return (you) [feminine]
إِلَىٰ
to; towards
رَاضِيَةً
well pleased
مَرْضِيَّةً
and pleasing
فَادْخُلِي
so enter (you) [feminine]
عِبَادِي
my slaves
وَادْخُلِي
and enter (you)[feminine]
جَنَّتِي
my Paradise; my Garden
