SUGER 1 Anatomy Flashcards
Where is the mid inguinal point?
Mid inguinal point = Half way between the pubic sympysis and the anterior superior iliac spine.
- Femoral artery crosses into the lower limb at this point
Where are the attachments of the inguinal ligament?
Pubic tubercle
Anterior superior iliac spine
Give the structures which make up the following parts of the inguinal canal:
a) Roof (3)
b) Posterior wall (1)
c) Floor (2)
d) Anterior wall (2)
Roof = Transversalis fascia, Internal oblique, Transversus abdominus
Posterior wall = Transversalis fascia
Floor = Inguinal ligament & lacunar ligaments (floor = ligements)
Anterior wall = Aponeeurosis of the external oblique & Internal oblique
What mechanism prevents herniation of the inguinal canal?
At times of increased intra-abdominal pressure the muscles of the anterior and posterior wall contract and clamp down on the canal
Where is the deep ring of the inguinal ligament found?
Found above the midpoint of the inguinal ligament, lateral to the epigastric vessels.
Where is the superficial ring of the inguinal canal?
Lies superior to the pubic tubercle.
Triangle shaped opening - formed by the evagination of the external oblique which creates the anterior covering.
