A

Mid inguinal point = Half way between the pubic sympysis and the anterior superior iliac spine.

  • Femoral artery crosses into the lower limb at this point

A

Roof = Transversalis fascia, Internal oblique, Transversus abdominus

Posterior wall = Transversalis fascia

Floor = Inguinal ligament & lacunar ligaments (floor = ligements)

Anterior wall = Aponeeurosis of the external oblique & Internal oblique

What mechanism prevents herniation of the inguinal canal?

A

At times of increased intra-abdominal pressure the muscles of the anterior and posterior wall contract and clamp down on the canal

Where is the deep ring of the inguinal ligament found?

A

Found above the midpoint of the inguinal ligament, lateral to the epigastric vessels.

A

Lies superior to the pubic tubercle.

Triangle shaped opening - formed by the evagination of the external oblique which creates the anterior covering.
