IMMS Flashcards
What is the function of DNA helicase?
It is the enzyme that breaks the hydrogen bonds in DNA which causes it to unwind
What is the function of the enzyme topoisomerase?
Toposiomerases regulate the winding and underwinding of DNA - prevents too much tension which will evenntually stop further unwinding (rope)
What is the role of DNA polymerases?
DNA polymerases made DNA by assembling DNA nucleotides.
DNA polymerases work in pairs to ‘read’ the template strand to create 2 new strands.
Reads from the 3’ end
What is the role of RNA primase?
RNA primase is the enzyme that is involved in making the RNA primer - DNA polymerase uses the RNA primer to initiate DNA replication
What is the role of DNA ligase?
Facilitates the joining of two DNA strands by a phosphodiester bond
