Straight ahead you can see Strandvägen. The road by the shore or beach road directly translated. And this is, probably, the most exclusive address in Scandinavia. If you would like to buy an apartment here I reckon around 30 thousand euros per square meter. The city planners of Stockholm talked about Strandvägen for over forty years before it became reality. They wanted each building to look a little bit like a palace in itself. And looking at it today I must say that the visionary was not far off.

Now I will take a moment or two to talk about who I believe is the most famous Swede of them all. It’s a girl, the world’s strongest girl in fact – do you know who it is? Vem är världens starkaste tjej? Pippilotta Viktualia Rullgardina Krusmynta Efraimsdotter Långstrump, Pippi Longstocking of course! This year she celebrates her 80th birthday! Inside Junibacken you can meet Pippi and all other of Astrid Lindgrens characters.
And in Sweden we love both Pippi Longstocking and Astrid Lindgren so much that we put both of them on our 20 notes. Visa upp en 20-lapp.
Astrid is without question…
Astrid is without doubt the most beloved Swedish person throughout our history. Astrid have sold over 150M books and have been translated into 100 different languages. She is about the 20th most translated author in the world to date. Well done Astrid.
Om du hinner - Idén till Junibacken kom från en man vid namn Staffan Götestam. Nu sitter kanske några här och tänker vem i hundan är Staffan Götestam - jo det är han som spelade Jonathan i filmen Bröderna Lejonhjärta. På junibacken kan ni åka sagotåget. Det var det sista Astrid skrev och också det sista hon spelade in innan hon lämna oss 2002.
Astrid passed away in her home here in Stockholm 2002, 94 years. Her funeral was like a state-funeral. The entire royal family was there, as well Prime Minister back then Göran Persson. She will, for many many many many generations to come, have a very special place in every Swedes heart.

We are now cruising by the Royal motor boat club. It’s over 100 years old. Prime location in the middle of the city. But if you want to put your own boat here… well then, stand in the queue because the waiting list is over 25 years. That is why we put wheels on our boats, so we can park them wherever we want to in the city center.
