We are now driving on Karlavägen in the area of Östermalm. Öster means east so we are in the east part of the city. Up until the end of the 1800 this was Stockholms slum area. It has transformed to one of the most exclusive residential areas in the country. Most buildings around us were built in the late 18 early 19 hundred and it was already then planned that this should be a posher neighborhood. We see this in the architecture. The ceilings are higher and the windows generally larger here than in the rest of the city.

Vi färdas just nu på Karlavägen – Östermalms paradgata. En av fyra gator i Stockholm som är smyckad med en vacker trä-allé i mitten. Gatan har fått sitt namn av de tre Karlarna, Karl den 10, 11 och 12e. Detta var alltså fram till sekelskiftet 18/1900 Stockholms slumområde (Ladugårdsgärdet). Men idag är det andra bullar, det vet ni.

So what kind of people live here you might be wondering? Well, the typical Östermalm resident is a quite wain character with frequent trips to the hairdresser and the gym. Driving a S.U.V is hot stuff. Preferably a Range Rover. To park legally is not that necessary. Here are more parking tickets issued than anywhere else in the country.
