Nobel P. + Alf Nob. Flashcards
Behind the boat … Nobel Park
Behind the boats you see the Nobel Park. This was a science project from the beginning. We wanted to plant all the trees that naturally grow in Sweden there. and we almost succeeded. All trees but one is in there! Me and the captain have a deal together. If you can tell me which tree is missing, me or the captain have to jump into the water before we´re entering the mainland again. And you´ve got three seconds from now… Three… Two… One! Captain! We made it! It ́s The Mountain Birch – Fjällbjörken in Swedish. It only grows in the north. Too warm for it in Stockholm.
The park is…
The Park is of course named after the Stockholm born man Alfred Nobel. The inventor of the Dynamite and many other things. By his death in 1896 he left 355 different patents after him, and a big chunk of money that he said “this money should be endowed to the greatest of mankind”. By that he meant men and women who had done extremely well in physics, chemistry, physiology/medicine, literature and work in peace.
And here (Diplomatic City)
And here you find the 12 beautiful villas – part of the Diplomatic city that we passed before. And now you know why I said that the American embassy is not considered the most beautiful one in the city… Those villas were built in the beginning of the 1900´s. Then almost all were private, but today only two of the are, and the rest is owned by the Swedish or a foreign state.
The one to the left of the white was in 2001 the most expensive private home ever sold in Swedish history – and back then, 20 years ago, it went for 7M euros
Then we have… Kaknästtornet
Om du hinner; KAKNÄSTORNET
Then we have the highest building in the city. Kaknästornet – Cookie Nose Tower directly translated. It´s 170 meters high. It was open for the public up until 2019 when we had to close it because of security reasons
The white one.. (Diplomatstaden-vatten 2)
The white is the only one who has had the same owner since it was built. That’s the UK residence.
Apart from those two there are mostly embassy’s, Turkey, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, US and UK. But now you’re probably sitting there, wondering where can I see the Norwegian embassy, “show me the Norwegian embassy! - of course I will, take a look to your right up on the hill.
Peka på det lilla trähuset som tillhör Skansen
No it’s not. It belongs to Skansen, the open air museum.
Det är alltså inte norska ambassaden uppe till höger om någon, mot all förmodan, skulle tro det. Det är Skansens äldsta hus och kommer från Norge.
