Historisks Museet + Djurgården + Djurgårdsbron Flashcards
Stockholm ranks in…
Stockholm ranks in the top when it comes to the number of museums – over 100 museums. The yellow building you see on your right is the Museum of History. Its mostly known for its Gold room that contains gold and silver objects as far back as the migration period. That’s 400 a.d.
Stockholm är med sina drygt 100 museer ett av världens mest museum-tätaste huvudstäder. Vi passerade det Historiska museet och vi kommer se många fler under resans gång.

We are heading down…
We are heading down towards Djurgården. Royal ground and has been owned by the Swedish king since the 1400 hundreds. The name Djurgården comes from the fact that this was once the King’s hunting area. Djurgården translates into animal yard.
During the 1700s Sweden had a king named Adolf Fredrik and he was not interested in hunting at all. So he opened Djurgården for the public and the social life could start to flourish. Today Djurgården market themself as Scandinavias #1 attraction – with about 15 million visitors per year.
Ahead of you…
Ahead you find Djurgårdsbron that connects Östermalm to the island of Djurgården. There are two statues on each side guarding the bridge.
- Viking Gods. Thor, Frigg, Heimdal and Freija.
The statue to the right, is the guardian Heimdal. See that he is holding a horn. Ready to blow as soon as a virgin crosses the bridge. Hasn’t happened once since 1897. The year when the bridge was finished. Peculiar.
