Stroke Flashcards
Complications of Intracellular Haemorrhage
Local damage
Local mass effect/herniation related to raised ICP
Hydrocephalus
Management of Intracellular Haemorrhage
Cause
Stop aspiring or warfarin
Treat complications + RFs
Rehab
Small vessel stroke
Lacunar
Ischaemic cascade
Treatment aims to save maximum cells in penumbra region
Risks for stroke
Age, male, race, socioeconomic status
Smoking, weight, inactivity, alcohol
Hypertension, hypercholesterolaemia, diabetes, vascular disease
1mm/L decrease in LDL cholesterol
15% decrease in risk of stroke
Pyramidal system
primary motor cortex –> internal capsule –> cerebral peduncles –> decussation of pyramids –> descending CS
What strokes caused visual defects
PCA
MCA
Anterior circulation stroke
TACI/PACI
Unilateral motor deficit
Homonymous hemianopia
Higher cerebral function
Posterior circulations stroke
POCI Pure hemianopia Cerebellar signs Bilateral/crossed sensorimotor signs Diplopia and CN palsy
Lacunar stroke
LACI
Pure motor
Pure sensory
Ataxic hemiparesis
Thrombolysis
20% patients suitable
Management
5% patients suitable for thrombectomy
