what is it caused by?
A
HPV types 6 and 11 (and occasionally type 1)

what are the symptoms?
A
- lumps with a surface texture of a cauliflower
- itching
- bleeding

what is the epidemiology?
A
- > 90% of UK population have genital HPV infection at some point in life
- only about 20% of those infected with a wart-causing strain get warts

how do you diagnose it?
A
- appearance
- biopsy if unusual (to exclude intraepithelial neoplasia)

how do you treat it medically?
A
- Podophyllotoxin
- Imiquimod

what procedures are involved in the treatment?
A
- Cryotherapy
- Diathermy (for bulky warts)
