- menstrual history
- previous pregnancy / fertility in past relationships
- previous contraception
- previous investigations

- examine for any androgenic symptoms ie fat & hair distribution
- could indicate PCOS
- galactorrhoea
- pituitary tumour
- abdo and pelvic examination
- fibroids/ masses
- pelvic distortion- fixed retroverted uterus
