Stereotype
system 1 thinking, activates schema based on characteristics. Can be copied from others, often exaggerated and based on inductions, therefore often wrong. Fixed by befriending
Out-groups
Often seen as similar, in groups seen as more different.
Levels of stereotypes
Public; What we say to others
Private; What we believe but don’t say
Implicit; Operates to guide behaviour and associations (kind of like priming)
Soical pressure
creates arousal, can choke under pressure because working memory is crowded (can’t concentrate)
Social facilitation; perform better, often in automatic and dominant trait
Social interference; perform worse, often in non-dominant traits.

Influence of others
Informational influence, social influence that provides clues about objective nature, in absence of better info
Normative influence; Social influence that works through desire of being approved by others (Asch)
Passive bystander effect
With more bystanders less likely to help because of shared responsibility and social comparison (others don’t act)
Group polarisation
Shirting to more extreme because groups don’t agree.
Groupthink
Letting go of rational thought and emphasizing on group cohesion, leading to wrong decisions
