Characteristics of depressive thinking
Negative events has disastrous consequences
Internalizing cause, reflects something negative of self
Attributing cause to something stable that can’t be changed
Rumination
Focusing on symptoms of distress and possible causes of these symptoms (doesn’t resolve in solution)
Brain changes in depression
Used to think it was due to decrease serotonin and norephinephrine but effect of treatment is delayed. Now think might be cortisol that blocks growth of brain. Therefore takes a while to repond
Bipolar I disorder
At least one manic episode

At least one hypomania episode
Schizophrenia
Delusional and
negative(catatonic) and
positive(delusion/hallucination) symptoms.
