Fear
Can be triggered by real and imagined stimuli due to complex brain, not always adaptive (functional)
Hypervigilance
Hightened attention to potential threat, seen in anxiety disorders (might be predisposing cause)
Phobia
Know it is irrational, but feel extreme fear. Hypervigilance towards it but take their eyes off faster than others.
Prepared fear
More inclined to create fear of things that are evolutionarily threatening. Like snakes
Panic disorder
Panic attack followed by intense fear of having another panic attack
Agoraphobia
intense fear of public places, partly because embarrassment of panicking in front of other
Brain areas and OCD
Frontal lobe and basal ganglia, don’t give the normal response of closure so feel the need to do it again and again. Also bc of lack of executive functioning
PTSD 3 main components
Re-experiencing ; Dreaming/flashback
Heightened arousal; Sleepless, irritable, exaggerated startle response
Avoidance; anything that reminds/social withdrawal.
