Categories of spleen pathology

A

White pulp - reactive: ex, follicular hyperplasia

White pulp - malignant: ex, hepatosplenic T cell lymphoma

Red pulp - congestion: ex, congenital hemolytic anemia

Red pulp - infection: ex, infectious mononucleosis

Red pulp - histiocytic proliferation: ex, histiocytic and DC neoplasms

Red pulp - extramedullar hematopoiesis: ex, leukemia/MDS/MPN

Red pulp - nonhematopoietic tumors: ex, cysts, hamartomas

A

May be focal or diffuse. Occurs secondarily in infectious or immunologic processes (ITP, hemolytic anemia, RA).
