spinal deformity Flashcards
four types of spinal deformity
scoliosis, spina bifida, sondylolysis, sondylolisthesis
four types of scoliosis
congenital, neuromuscular, adolescent idopathic, degenerative
four causes of neuromuscular scoliosis
intraspinal abnormalities, muscular weakness, neurologic weakness, infectious
what is most common type of scoliosis?
adolescent idiopathic
when does adolescent idiopathic scoliosis appear?
bet ages 10 and 16
how is it found? how can it be treated?
found with effective school screening. treatment depends on risk of progression.
risser sign
helps measure growth potential of youth with hip measurements
what is the relationship between curve magnitude, growth potential and risk of progression?
if curve magnitude is low and GP is limited, risk is low. The higher the curve magnitude and growth potential, the higher the risk of progression.
