spinal cord Flashcards
cervical enlargement
swelling in spinal cord because there is more neurons, attachment of large nerves which supply the upper limb (C2-C7)
lumbosacral enlargement
widened area of the spinal cord which gives attachments to nerves that supply the lower limb (T11-L2)
Conus Medularis
bundled, tapered end of the spinal cord nerves, situated near two lumbar vertebra
cauda equina
sack of nerve roots around L3. Provide sensory, motor innervaton to the pelvis and lower limbs. Also bowel and bladder function.
filum terminale internum
15 cm long, reaches into sacrum, contained in dura mater above Pia mater
film terminale externum
closely adheres to dura matter, attaches down to coccyx
spinal nerves
Dura mater
arachnoid mater
pia mater
Anterior ramus
innervates the skin and muscle on the anterior aspect of the trunk
posterior ramus
innervates the posterior vertebral muscles and skin of the back
denticular ligament
triangular lateral extensions of Pia mater that anchors the spinal cord to the dura mater
CSF
cerebrospinal fluid : protects the body from impacts
