elbow joint : radioulnar/humeroulnar Flashcards
anular ligament
encircles and holds the head of the radius in the radial notch of the ulna forming the proximal radio-ulnar joint and permitting pronations and supination of the forearm
trochlear notch
large depression formed by the olecranon and the coronoid process, articulates with trochlea of humerus
radial collateral ligament
- around radius and capitulum
- thickening of capsule on the outside (lateral)
- blends distally with the annular ligament of the radius
ulna collateral ligament
- medial, triangular
- extends from the medial epicondyle of the humerus to the coronoid process and olecranon of the ulna.
- anterior band ; very strong
- posterior fan-like band : weakest
- slender oblique band deepens the socket for the trochlea of the humerus
bursae
- cinovial membrane, sac filled with liquid to help with reducing friction
- intratendinous olecranon bursa : sometimes present in the tendon of the triceps brachii
- subtendinous olecranon bursa: between the olecranon and the triceps tendon
-subcutaneous olecranon bursa : located in the subcutaneous connective tissue over the olecranon
see lecture 14 pic
cubital fossa
TAN : tendon, artery, nerve (lateral to medial)
biceps brachii tendon, brachial artery and veins, median nerve
see lecture 14 picture
arteries of distal upper limb
brachial artery crosses through cubital fossa then splits into :
- ulnar artery : then continues to superficial palmar arch USPA
- radial artery : then continues to the deep palmar arch RDPA
both are eventually connected
