adductor longus

  • *proximal attachment** : body of pubis inferior to pubic crest
  • *distal attachment** : middle third of linea aspera of femur
  • *action** : adducts hip joint

adductor brevis

Proximal attachment : body and inferior ramus of pubis

distal attachment : pectineal line and proximal part of linea aspera of femur

action : adducts hip joint and to some extent flexes it

innervation : obturator nerve (L2, L3, L4)

Q
A

adductor Magnus

Proximal attachment :

  • adductor part* : inferior ramus of pubis, ramus of ischium
  • hamstring part* : ischial tuberosity

Distal attachment :

  • adductor part* : gluteal tuberosity, linea aspera, medial supracondylar line
  • hamstring part* : adductor tubercle of femur

action : adducts hip joint; its adductor part also flexes hip joint, and its hamstring part extends it

innervation :

  • adductor part*: obturator nerve (L2, L3, L4)
  • hamstring part* : tibial part of sciatic nerve (L4)

Q

obturator externus

Proximal attachment : margins of obturator foramen and obturator membrane

distal attachment : trochanter fossa of femur

action : laterally rotates hip joint; pulls head of femur into acetabulum holding pelvis steady

innervation : obturator nerve (L3, L4)

gracilis

proximal attachment : body and inferior ramus of pubis

distal attachment : superior part of medial surface of tibia

action : adducts hip joint; flexes knee joint and helps rotate it medially

innervation : obturator nerve (L2, L3)
