quadriceps femoris Flashcards

1
Q
A

rectus femoris

  • *Proximal attachment**: anterior inferior iliac spine and ilium superior to acetabulum
  • *distal attachment** : quadriceps tendon and independent attachments to base of patella
  • *Action** : extend knee joint, stabilizes hip joint and helps iliopsoas flex hip joint
  • *innervation**: Femoral nerve (L2, L3, L4)

Q
A

vastus lateralis

Proximal attachment : greater trochanter and lateral lip of linea aspera (ridge of roughened surface on the posterior surface of the shaft of the femur where lots of muscles attach)

distal attachment : via common tendinous (quadriceps tendon) and base of patella; attachment to tibia and patella via aponeuroses (lateral retinacula)

Action : extend knee joint

innervation : femoral nerve (L2,L3, L4)

vastus medialis

Medial attachment : intertrochanteric line and medial lip of linea aspera

distal attachment : via common tendinous (quadriceps tendon) and independent attachments to the base of patella, attaches to tibia and patella via aponeuroses (medial retinacula)

action : extend knee joint

innervation : femoral nerve (L2, L3, L4)

Q

vastus intermedius

A

proximal attachment: anterior and lateral surfaces of shaft of femur

distal attachment: via common tendinous (quadriceps tendon) and independent attachments to the base of patella; indirectly via patellar ligament to tibial tuberosity

action: extends knee joint

innervation : femoral nerve (L2, L3, L4)
