ligaments of pelvis Flashcards
anterior view of coronal section
Sacro-illiac joint : connects the hip bones (iliac crest) to the sacrum
Sacrospinous ligament : connects the inferior-lateral part of sacrum to the ischial spine, assists in resisting external rotational forces of the pelvis
Sacrotuberous ligament : help stabilize pelvis, attaches higher on sacrum
Posterior sacro-iliac ligament : connects the PSIS with the lateral part of third and fourth segments of the sacrum. very strong
Interosseous sacro-iliac ligament : connects the tuberosities of the sacrum to the ilium of the pelvis. Huge ligament
Anterior sacro-iliac ligament : numerous thin bands of connective tissue, forming a strong broad ligament.
anterior view
anterior longitudinal ligament : runs down anterior surface of spine, inserts into sacrum
Iliolumbar : supports lumbar spine, attaches to iliac crest and ilium from T5 transverse processes
inguinal ligament : set of two bands that connect oblique muscles of abdomen to the pelvis. inserts on the pubic tubercle
superior and inferior (arcuate) pubic ligament : connects the two pubic bones together
obturator membrane : strong fibrous joint that fills the obturator foramen of the hip bone, provides attachment to obturator muscles
posterior view
iliolumbar ligament : supports lumbar spine, attaches to iliac crest and ilium from T5 transverse processes
posterior sacro-iliac ligament : connects the PSIS with the lateral part of third and fourth segments of the sacrum. very strong
sacrospinous ligament : connects the inferior-lateral part of sacrum to the ischial spine, assists in resisting external rotational forces of the pelvis
sacrotuberous ligament : help stabilize pelvis, attaches higher on sacrum
Dorsal sacro-iliac ligament also called posterior scar-illiac ligament
greater sciatic foramen : opening in the posterior side of pelvis, wider in women than in men
Lesser sciatic foramen : nerves and vessels pass through
