Specialised Plant Cells Flashcards
What is a root hair cell?
Root hair cells help plants take in lots of water and mineral ions. They are close to xylem tissue which helps carry water and mineral ions to the rest of the plant.
What is a photosynthetic cell?
Photosynthetic cells allow plants to make their own food. They contain green structures that trap in the light allowing for photosynthesis to take place. They are positioned within the leaves to capture as much light as possible.
What is a xylem cell?
Xylem is transport tissue in plants that carries water and mineral ions to the top leaves and shoots. The xylem in supporting the plant. The cells are alive when formed but then they die and form long tubes to allow water and mineral ions to pass through.
What is a phloem cell?
Phloem carry food around the body of the plant. It forms tubes but they do not die. The dissolved food can move up and down the tubes to where needed.
