Anaerobic Respiration Flashcards
What is it?
Anaerobic respiration is where glucose molecules are not broken down. Blood cannot supply that much oxygen to the muscle fast.
Why does it happen?
Because oxygen cannot be delivered quickly enough.
What are the effects?
Muscle fatigue-lactic acid builds up and causes burning sensations of camp.
Anaerobic respiration is less efficient than aerobic respiration-it releases less energy and can only be done for a short period of time.
What is exothermic reaction?
Transfer energy to the environment this happens when new bonds are formed in the products than is taken in to break the bonds in the reactants.
What is an aerobic respiration?
Glucose reacts with oxygen. This transfers energy that your cells can use. This energy is important as everything that goes on in your body.
Whats the response when you exercise?
Heart rate increases and the arteries supplying blood to your muscles dilate. It also increases the rate of carbon dioxide.
What is metabolism?
Metabolism is the sum of all the reactions in the body. E.G. an metabolic reaction is the conversion of glucose to starch, glycogen and cellulose.
