Sound Flashcards
How is sound heard
When force is applied to objects, they vibrate causing air to move fowards and backwards into our ears
What is amplitude
The maximum distance particles move either foward or backward in a sound wave.
What is wavelength
The distance from the peaks of the waveform
What is pitch
How high or low appears on the musicale scale
What is frequency
The number of vibrations each second
How does frequency and pitch correlate
As frequency increases, so does the pitch
How does amplitude and sound correlates
As the sound gets louder the amplitude increases and as the sound gets queiter the amplitude decreases
The effect produces when two waves meet each other is known as
Interference
When do waves reinforce
When the waves peaks of both waveforms arrive at the same time
When do waves cancel
When the wave peak of a waveform meets with the trough of another waveform at equal amplitude
The graph shows the distance that particles move foward and backward. What is the name of the shape of this graph
It is called a waveform
What instrument displays the waveforms of sound waves
Oscilloscopes
Frequency is measured in
Hz or hertz
