Forces Flashcards
What happens to the weight of an object when it is in water?
Feels lighter.
Why is the force exerted upward on an object in a fluid more than the force exerted downward?
This is because pressure increases with depth
What is the net upward force exerted on objects submerged in fluids called?
Upthrust or Buoyant force
What happens when you push a bottle deeper into a fluid?
More force against your hand
What is the equilibrium position of a spring?
The equilibrium position of a spring is the position where the spring is neither being stretched nor compressed. It’s the natural resting position of the spring when no external forces are acting on it.
When a spring is compressed what happens to it’s particles
They will move closer together
When a spring is stretched what happens to it’s particles
They move further apart
When a spring is compressed or stretched, what does it do
It attempts to move back to it’s equillibrium position by exerting a force equal and opposite to the opposing force
Which springs store the most energy
Longer springs
What is tension force?
Tension force is the force that arises when an object is pulled or stretched.
