SOP 407 Ventilation Flashcards
3 Venitalation tactics that WMFR supports
Coordinated horizontal, coordinated vertical and coordinated positive pressure
General concept of tactical ventilation?
Releasing heat and products of combustion, create a flow path (one that we want)
Main consideration of creating another flow path?
Must be accounted for in IAP and risk benefit analysis. Has potential to spread fire and build intensity
Horizontal Ventilation tactics
Create a flow path from fire room to the exterior. Coordinated! When possible openings should be manual operation rather than breakage to be able to start/stop if needed
Vertical ventilation tactics
Can be utilized to reduce heat, products of combustion, limit back draft, make are more tenable.
Vertical Ventilation Ops
Roof Size Up. Coordinate. As close to fire origin to limit lateral spread. Make hole large enough. Secondary means of egress. Full PPE and on air.
What is positive pressure ventilation?
Usually a post control tactic to improve visibility and air quality. Not a fire attack tactic. Stairwell pressurization with PPV or building systems. Control all doors to be effective.
Building PPV systems
Normally operated by qualified member of building maintenance staff. A FF can help as a liaison.
