Back Up Hoseline
Second hose line to protect means of egress for interior crews. Equal to or larger diameter than primary hoseline.
C.A.N. Report
A report between tactical supervisor and command outlining fire conditions, actions and further needs.
Critical Fire Ground Factors
Include but not limited to building, fire, occupancy, life hazard, arrangement, resources, actions, special circumstances, etc.
Hazard Zone Management
Concept of providing safety and management oversight within a hazard zone. Task level done by company officer, Tactical level done my district chief, strategic level done by incident command.
Horizontal Standpipe
Act of extending the reach of 1 3/4” handline by deploying a 2 1/2” line then Wying off
Incident Action Plan (IAP)
Written or oral plan containing incident priorities, operational objectives, strategy and supporting tactics. First officer is responsible for initial IAP.
Inside-Out Deployment Model
Act of utilizing tactical crews for rapid intervention in the immediate area of the FF in need.
MAYDAY
Phrase used on the radio to announce a firefighter is a life-threatening or pending life threatening situation
On-Deck
Forward staging position location outside the immediate hazard zone, ready to receive any assignment
Rapid Intervention Team/Crew
Considered an outside-in deployment model
Recycle
Concept where FF are placed back on-deck or reassigned after a bottle change or one work cycle.
Three Deep Deployment Model
Concept of companies working in the hazard zone, companies staged on-deck and companies in reserve at level 2 staging
Work Rest Cycle
Concept of managing a crews work load with reasonable rest cycles. Not a substitution for formal rehab.
