Q

temperature and solubility of solids is directly or indirectly related?

A

directly. As temp rises so does solubility

Q

temperature and solubility of gases is directly or indirectly related?

A

Q

Why does gas become less soluble as temperature increases?

A

Gas molecules will move FASTER as temperature rises. When a gas is dissolved in liquid, raising the temp increases the gas molecules speed, which causes more and more gas molecules to escape/leave the liquid

Q

Why is soda served cold and in pressured cans?

A

Bc more gas dissolves in liquid at low temp and more gas is disolved with more pressure. So more carbon dioxide can dissolve in a cold pressurized drink, giving it more fizz.

Q

Henry’s Law

A

Pa=k*{A}
Pa=gas’ pressure in the solution
k= gas’ concentration in moles per liter (Molarity)
{A}= constant that differs for each gas, solvent, temp

Q

Instead of remembering Henry’s Law, just remember that if you increase/decrease pressure of a gas solution, you must also increase/decrease __________ by the same factor
