what is collectivism?
Collectivism refers to the notion that we can achieve valuable goals on a shared rather than individual basis
how are socialists collective?
because they believe that the collectivist action will lead to ranny of the majority, socialists argue that democracy represents people working together to achieve a better society. The socialist view of democracy is therefore built around a collectivist conception rather than atomised individualism
how does collectivism link to socialism?
collectivism is the assumption that action taken in a group is more effective than action done on an individual basis this links to a revolutionary theory that the only way socialism can be achieved is through revoultion.
what does collectivism underpin?
collectivism underpins the idea that by nature man is a social animal .
what do collectivists have an issue with?
the conflict is with individualism, collectivist see this concept as an idea that serves no higher purpose or objective, instead it maintains capitalism
how does individualism go against a socialist stance?
individualism goes against socialists stance because it reinforces capitalism on the presumption that the bourgisee are right in maintaining inequality suggesting that number of those disadvantaged by the unfettered marketplace is far greater than those who benefiit frm it.
examples of collectivism
In the UK, these aims are reflected throughout the labour movement. For instance, Labour’s Clause 4 states that “by the strength of our common endeavour we achieve more than we achieve alone.”
