What is the slave trade?
The Atlantic slave trade transported slave traders of enslaved African people mainly to the Americas
Where did most slaves work?
In the southern states, on tobacco and cotton implantations

What is the civil war?
A war in 1861 between the union (Northern states) and the confederate (Southern states) because the southern states wanted to keep slavery while the northern wanted to outlaw slavery

Who was Jim crow?
A ministrel character in the 1820s of African Americans
What were the Jim Crow laws?
Laws in the southern states showing how they still wanted to treat black people as second class citizens by separating facilities such as a black only bathroom and a white only bathroom, with the southern states saying its separate but equal when the facilities were majorly different and still unfair
What is the Ku Klux Klan?
The Klan started after the civil war by ex-Confederate officers aimed to terrorise the black population to “keep them in their place” with many southern officers and citizens being members
What was the Voter Registration meant for?
The voter registration from the 15th amendment stated that “the right of citizens of the US to vote shall not be denied…slavery” meaning more than 500000 black men could vote
What is the NAACP
The NAACP was started by white and black activists in response to African Americans across the country
What does NAACP stand for
National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People
What did the NAACP do
They started the civil rights movement to end racial discrimination for African Americans and gain equal rights under the law. It began in 1954 and ended in 1968.
What was the Montgomery Bus Boycott
The boycott started after Rosa Parks got arrested when she refused to give up her seat for a white man
What happened after Rosa Parks got arrested?
Martin Luther King started a boycott of the Montgomery buses until the company agreed to desegregate the buses and a year later segregation in buses were ruled illegal by the Supreme Court
What happened at Central High school in Little Rock?
The NAACP attempted to force Central High to carry out the Supreme Court’s order to get the school to integrate and was able to get 9 black students to attend the school
What happened at the Birmingham Campaign?
A March was organised by Martin Luther King with the march relating to the KKK with the police unleashed police dogs and fire hoses on the protestors and a month later President Kennedy turned Birmingham to desegregate
Who is Martin Luther King Jr?
MLK was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1929 who led the Montgomery Boycott.

The speech was called for civil and economic rights and a end to racism

MLK died on the 4th of April 1968 after being shot on his motel balcony in Tennesee.
