Three cognitive theories
Beck’s theory
Linked depression to negative tread, negative view of self, world and future. Schemas develop through negative experiences. Activated in similar situations of the cause of trauma.
Hopelessness theory
Most important trigger: hopelessness. Beleif that desirable outcome will nog occur. Nothing you can do to change. two dimensions:
Stable (permanent) vs unstable (temporary)
Global vs specific.
More likely to become depressed if attributional is stable and global
Rumination theory
Tendency to dwell on sad experiences and thoughts
