Reliability Flashcards
Inter rater reliability
Degree to which two independent observers agree on what they observed
Test retest
Extent to which same results are observed in second test
Alternate form reliability
Extent to which scores on the two forms of the test are consistent
Internal consistancy
Assesses whether the items are related to one another
Features of DSM that inhance cutlural vatiations
- Culture related issues are discussed in the text for almost all disorder
- Cultural formulation interviews are integrated for clinicians
- Appendix describing syndromes that may appear in particular cultures. Nine cultural concepts of distress
Criticism on DSM
Too many diagnoses; high comorbidity as some disorders have minute differences between symptoms
Categorical classification vs dimentional; forces clinicians to work within threshold and simensional would allow for degree of a symptom
Reliability of dsm in practice is low as clinicians have to include own judgement
Validity of categories
General criticism
Life could sinificantly change by receiving diagnosis and stigma
Some labels can be seen as less negative than overview of symptoms, but we might lose sight of uniqueness of person
Worry of someone recognizing your disorder, fear of onset of another episode
