Soc 9: Long Term Effects Flashcards
What is the long-term effect of aerobic training?
In terms of aerobic exercise, the effects of training will increase the ability to work for long periods of time
What is the long-term effect of anaerobic training? High intensity no oxygen
In terms of anerobic exercise, the effects of training will increase the ability to move in quick bursts for example sprinting for the ball in football
Effects on musculo-skeletal system
It increases body density
Increased strength of ligament and tendons
Muscle hypertrophy
Rest for adaptation and recovery
Effects on cardio-respiratery system (heart)
Decreased resting heart rate Faster recovery rate Increased resting stroke volume Maximum cardiac output Size and strength of the heart
Effects on cardio-respiratery system (blood)
Improved fitness increases the number of capillaries in your muscle
Increased number of red blood cells
Drop in resting blood pressure
Effects on the respiratory system(3)
Increase lung capacity/volume and vital capacity
Increase number of alveoli
Increased strength of the diaphram and external intercostal muscles
Adaptation
Your body response to training and how your body changes to cope with new activity
Alveoli
Tiny sacs within our lungs that allow oxygen and carbon dioxide to move between the lungs and bloodstream
Diaphragm
The primary muscle used in the process of inspiration or inhalation
Cardiac output
The amount of blood ejected from your heart in one minute (CO) = (SV) x (HR)
Resting stroke volume
The amount of blood pumped per beat
Recovery rate
The speed at which your heart returns to RHR after your exercise
