Soc 7: Methods Of Training Flashcards
Contionuous
Continuous training is steady training. Your WHR will not be very high but will be in the target zone for aerobic fitness
Fartlek
Like interval training it includes periods of work followed by periods of rest or light work. However, sessions include sprints of varying distances not necessarily measured distances as in interval training.
Circuit
Circuit training involves a number of exercises arranged so as to avoid exercising the same muscle groups consecutively. For example, a press-up station could be followed by a step-up station.
Interval
The ’work’ period, or interval, may be a distance to run, such as 60m or a timed run such as 20secs. This will be linked to a particular activity using the principle of specificity
Plyometrics
Plyometrics are exercises in which muscles exert maximum force in short intervals of time
Weight
Weight training uses progressive resistance either in the form of actual weight lifted or in terms of the number of times the weight is lifted
Aerobics
Mainly aerobic exercise to music, covering a variety of exercises
Body pump
Exercise to music normally using low weights with many repititions and a variety of exercises, such as linges and squats
Pilates
A series of core stability exercises rather than the quantity - so less vigorous but working on a range of movement. Also focuses on correct breathing, relaxation and stress reduction
Yoga
Ancient form of exercise that focuses on postures or poses (to increase strength and flexibility), breathing and sometimes meditation, to boost physical and emotional well-being
Emphasis on quality of exercise, holding the correct position with full range of movement and balance, and breathing correctly
Spinning
Aerobic and anaerobic cycling on a stationary bike to music
