Soc 18: Aerobic, Anaerobic And Energy Sources Flashcards
Glucose
a major source of
energy for most cells in the body.
Aerobic respiration
the process
of releasing energy from glucose,
using oxygen.
Anaerobic exercise
the
process of releasing energy from
glucose, without oxygen.
Aerobic exercise
working at a
moderate intensity allowing the
body time to utilise oxygen for
energy production and to work
for a continuous period, e.g. long-
d i s t a n c e e v e n t s .
Lactic acid
a colourless acid
produced in muscle tissues
during strenuous exercise
when the body is exercising
anaerobically at high intensity.
Cramp
painful, involuntary
contraction of a muscle, usually caused by fatigue
What are fats
Provide most energy. When you eat it turns to fatty acid
What are carbohydrates
Easier to use than fats. Stored in small amounts, turned to fat for long storage
What are complex carbs
Found in brown rice, pasta and bread. Provide slow energy
What are simple carbs
Found in fruits, biscuits, cakes and chocolates. Provide quick energy
