Q

What are the characteristics of : Arteris, Veins, Capillares

A

Arteries take blood away from the heart
Veins carry blood to the heart
Capillares carry oxygenated blood which transfers oxygen and nutrients to the muscles

Q

What is vascular shanting

A

Process that increases blood flow to active areas during exercise by diverting blood away from inactive areas! Achieved by vasodilation and vasconstriction.

Q

What are veins

A

Carry blood into the heart
Veins have much thinner walls and carry deoxygenated blood at a lower pressure

Q

What are Capillaries

A

.Cappileries are microscopic vessels- just one cell thick
.Carries oxygenated blood which transfers oxygen and nutrients to the working muscles
.Carries deoxygenated blood into the veins picking up

Q

What is the systolic phase

A

.Where blood is pumped from both atria into the ventricles
.pushing deoxygenated blood to leave the right ventricle to the lungs via thenpulmonary artery

Q

Why are red blood cells important

A

Red blood cells transport oxygen from the lungs to the body’s cells and carbon dioxide from the cells to the lungs. They contain haemoglonpbin which stores oxygen and carbon dioxide.

Q

What is the importance of white blood cells

A

They are the defence system of the body which produces antibodies to fight against infection and diseases.

17
Q

What is the importance of platelets

A

Blood plaelets are formed in the bone marrow in which blood is the first line of defence to repair a wound. When a blood vessel is cut platelets rush to the area amd swell into irregular shapes, they become sticky and act as a plug.

18
Q

What is the importance of plasma

A

Plasma takes nutrients, hormones and proteins to the parts of the body that need it
