Small Intestine Points Flashcards
Cun for lower and upper arm
Lower arm - 12 cun from Si 5 - 8
No upper arm points
Si 10
Work your way out laterally along the scapular spine until you reach the tuberosity of the scap spine. Come back medially and inferiorly. The point lies in the infra scapula fossa. Ask patient to raise a lower arm and you will see a depression below the scap spine. It should sit above SI 9 1 cun superior to axilla.
Si9
Identify the axilla and the posterior axillary crease. The point lies 1 cun superior to axillery crease and directly beneath si10 on the posterior border of the deltoid muscle. You need to abduct the arm to see the border.
Si 12
Run your fingers medially from lateral end of the scap spine. Feel for where the bone begins to widen, roughly half way along the scap spine. The point lies here in the supra scapula fossa.
Si11
First locate Si12, half way along scapula spine where bone wides- point lies in supra scapula fossa. To find si 11 drop down directly beneath si12. It is about 1 cun in ferior to the scap spine in the infra scapula fossa. It’s about a third the distance from the scap spine to the inferior angle of the scapula. Roughly level with T4
It’s makes an isosceles triangle with SI9 & 10
Si 13
Run fingers medially along scap spine until you reach the end. The point is roughly 1 cun lateral to the medial border of the scap spine.
Si16
Identify the height of the Adams apple. Move out medially and the point lies between the two heads of the STCM muscle.
Si 17
Identify the posterior corner of the mandible. The point lies here between the mandible and the STCM muscle
Si18
Identify the outer canthus. Drop directly inferior and over the zygomatic bone. The point lies here inferior to the bone.
Si19
Identify the tregus. The point is on a level with the widest point of the tregus in a seam which lies directly anterior to the ear. Ask the patient to open their mouth to identify the point between mandible and tregus.
