Internal causes?
Strong emotions leading to heat/fire in yin organ
Spreads through yin organs via the ke cycle - more organs, more severe.
External causes?
External pathogenic factor (not resting during invasion)
Overpowering illness
Sunstroke or extreme climactic conditions
Other causes?
Strong repeated drugs
Chemo
Radiotherapy
Poisoning
When to suspect?
Serious illness
Aggravations or unusual responses to treatment
History of drug therapy
History of drug/alcohol abuse
Severe mental/spiritual problems
CSEO of 2 CF’s across ke cycle
Chaotic or unstable pulses
Could be none
When to check for AE
First treatment
When other treatment has stalled/unusual response
Triggers - drug therapy, stress, trauma
New symptoms
Points to use
Lu - Bl 13
Pc - Bl 14
Liv - Bl 18
Sp - 20
Kid - 23
Only Heart if PC signals erythema
He - Bl 15
How to do it?
Superficial needle insertion 0.1 cun
Bl 13 lu
Bl 14 Pc
Bl 18 Liv
Bl 20 Sp
Bl 23 kid
Add check needles on same level & depth but away from the points.
Wait for erythema to go up to 20 mins.
If shown on Pc insert Bl15 and check needle for he
AE present if?
Erythema on both sides
Sig change to pulse or CSEO
No AE present if?
Erythema present on Bl point and check needle
No erythema
No change to pulse of CSEO
If only one side shows erythema check positioning of blank side.

Lung Bl13 - T3/4
Pericardium Bl14 - T4/5
Heart Bl15 - T5/6
Liver Bl18 - T9/10
Spleen - Bl20 - T11/12
Kidney - Bl 23 - L2/3
