- Melanoma
Benign Tumors
(2)
- Nevus
- Actinic Keratosis
Nevus Mole
What is it?
Manifestation
“Melanocyte Nevus”
- Benign Proliferation of melanocytes
- Depends on location
Nevus locatiointns
Junctional: at dermal-epidermal junction
Compound: into dermis
Inradermal: dermis only
Actinic Keratosis
what is it?
Manifestation?
- Benign neoplasm of epidermis
- Rough Spots (less than 1cm) with erythematous bas on sun-exposed skin
Actinic Keratosis if left untreated
Can become malignant (~10%)
Progressive Dysplasia of epidermis ( before squamous cancer)
What causes Actinic Keratosis?
Sun exposed skin
ionizing radiation
What is the most common tumor on sun exposed skin in older people?
Squamous cell carcinoma
Squamous Cell Carcinoma
What is it?
Manifestation?
- Malignant Tumor of Squamous Epithelium
- Red Nodule
If Squamous Cell Carcinoma metastasize…
<5%
poor prognosis
Invasive: invades the basement membrane and dermis
Melanoma ABCDE

Melanoma
What is it ?
Manifestation?
- Malignant Tumor
- ABCDE
Melanoma can arrise from
benign nevus
What increases the risk of Melanoma?
- sun exposure
- Familiy History
- Multiple Benign Nevi larger than 6mm
- History of sun burns
Melanoma metastasizes
very lethal
Prognosis →depends on depth of invasion
